Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera. hand held image. I saw several of these today and could not resist getting a few shots. Although it is called a Blister Beetle, another name is Oil Beetle and even though it is described as being short-winged, in truth it does not have any wings at all, lol. When disturbed or threatened, these beetles exude an oil from the leg joints that can cause blisters on bare skin. I must say now that I have never had an insect(that was perched on my finger) bite me, sting me, or cause pain in any manner but that does not mean I encourage others to pick up critters. Your results may not be the same, lol. Hopefully, this critter will be interesting to others because I have several images of them I intend to post. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

You have a very special way with these creatures. Its as if they sense you will cause them no harm. I love the texture pattern that has been captured by your stunning photography.

Well Lee how lucky you are, this is a perfect image. The way bugs like to bite, sting and anything else they can come up with to do to me makes me stay well away from them, I've discovered the ants in my front yard are called Green Head Ants, not to be confused with Green Ants. They attack and leave a nasty sting, the pain shoots up my legs now, I'll leave it to you to take shots of the nasty insects for us all to enjoy looking at later. Lol..Kym
