Description

I gaze at the chain of depressions imprinted in my fingernails, carved in by chemo sessions, like year rings on a tree, four valleys wide and counting meanwhile the war that was won 3 years ago is still going strong, there were floods somewhere far away, polar caps are melting people are on strike, but it's no use, no use i look outside an empty street everything unreal as cancer before treatment I'm slowly working on two new dull depressions, while i trim the first one away i throw the clipping in an empty ashtray, one of my cats hurries in minutes before the rain, man i could use a smoke right now --------------------------------------------- thank you so much for reading so far and any comments you might have. Pic is my Irish Wolfhound Dyflinn, when i first met him as a pup Have a great day! Dirk

Again, you have done it..and, imho, one of your best of late. I think: rings on a tree..an oak who thinks himself merely a peeling birch, but who is bending, necessarily, yet gracefully as willow against all that blows...from gale force winds, to softest breezes...and with a slow, barely perceptable greening, new tendrils...even in the absence of present light. The trimming away, the undoing of the first groove...makes me slowly smile. And, the photo of you snuggling Dyfinn upon meeting...the very sweetest thing... (((Dirk)))

Wonderful words written of your ongoing battle, keep strong my friend in your mind, and your animals will keep you focused as I know mine do so much!! I don't usually say this to anyone, but being as you are an animal lover take a peek at my gallery I think it could help put a smile on your face as it is full of fur and purr!! You don't have to vote or even comment just take a look. Hang in there and take care - hugs Jane xx

Querido amigo entre los anillos del crecimiento de un gran laurel pasan tantas tormentas.... mientras él fuerte sigue dando sombra y cobijo a quien se acerca cuando Llueve tormentosamente.... Ese eres TÚ. Dear friend between the ring of the growth of a great laurel passes so many storms…. while it hard continues giving to shade and shelter that approaches when It rains stormily…. That YOU are.

A beautiful pup, was Dyflinn, and a handsome dog he became. It always boggles my mind that life goes on, no matter what our personal tragedies. You would think all would come to a screeching halt .. but it doesn't. People continue to go shopping, children continue to play. The birds continue to come to the feeder. The sun still shines. All we can do is just what you are doing, whittling away at it, knowing that there IS light ahead, despite the darkness that overwhelms now. Thank you Dirk, for continuing to post, for sharing your poetry and your heart with us.

Thank you for letting us see life through your eyes. Until one has walked in your shoes, or lost a love from this dreaded disease no one knows...... Thank you again. A lovely capture of a true spirit. Karen :)

Your strength amazes me. Despite the pain and illness, you continue to share, to create, to love. And you do so with a special ability to shine light in the darkest paces. Thank you for being who you are.

A tender moment when nothing matters but the unconditional love and care between the best of friends – man and pup. Your words capture my heartfelt compassion. I only wish that the rings of depression would somehow transcend into rings of success and hope. In a struggle where you are both victim and hero, find the strength in the tremendous creative ability you so wonderfully display here. Wishing you smiles and extending a caring hand.

My niece just recently passed her 5th year without a recurrence, following treatment for stage-IV Ewing's sarcoma. There's hope for cancer and depression, and dogs are such wonderful friends.
