Description

Sorry, with the holidays and chemo, I've sort of forgotten about uploading Hornet photos. Won't promise them daily, but will try to get a few more up, including one I think came out quite well of the CIC. But that's for another day. (Yes, I like being a tease. :D ) One of the Hornet's last missions before being decomissioned in 1970 was to pick up the astronauts after splash down from the Apollo 11 and 12 missions. However, I'm guessing those capsules are somewhere more important. Pretty sure 11 is in the Smithsonian, no idea on the other. But that's neither here nor there. What we have here is the predecessor to the Command Modules (CM) that were flown for the Apollo Missions. They got the CM-12. This one here was used for the Apollo-Saturn 202 mission in which it was launched unmanned to test it's systems in Aug of 1966. The Hornet picked this one up as well. The damage you see isn't from that launch though, but the subsequent drop testing they performed on land afterward. The Hornet has some other space memorabilia as well which I'll try to get up later too. :) Hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving and are having a good weekend. John
