Description

When a Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) dies, it may lie on the forest floor for over a century. Many types of plants will use this "nurse log" for support and nutrients as it decays. On this log I can see several different ferns, Oxalis, mosses, huckleberry bushes, and others I can't identify. I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

Wonderful capture. I remember the fallen cedars and the deep musty earthy aroma of the woods. Thanks so much for sharing.

Isn't Nature clever, to reuse that essence of life to nurture new life? Thanks for sharing this with us :)

We don't have these trees where I live so I have never seen one before. It is a wonderful thing to be able to see such a great picture like this :)

As you know, I'm not much of a hiker but when I do venture out I love finding these Nurse Log's and stopping to see all the things growing on them. This is a beautiful picture of one.
