If mushrooms screamed when we bit into them, would we be so quick to eat them? Well what if they screamed all the time, for no good reason?
Please read the word bubbles from top to bottom, regardless of whether they're on the left or right.
Despite appearances I had to bust my ass on this one, big time. I had the original idea for this a few months ago. Over time it's evolved, and looking at the final product now I'm VERY pleased with how it came out. I hope you like it too, because this could very well be the LAST NEW set I make with these characters. I've been working on some V4 based characters and I'll be rolling stuff out with them soon.
As layout's go it's fairly simple (3 main frames) though there's a method to this madness:
Frame 1-> The set up and mild humour of a type you'd find in a mild comic strip or sit-com. Welcome to dilbert country. The humour here is of course, a diversion.
Frame 2-> The transition from mild to horrific. we read the text, see the faces and the darker among us might think, "hey it's funny that they're eating heads." This frame also serves as a flash look at the personalities of my busty elves. Szin is well meaning but completely amoral. She doesn't try to hide what she did, in her mind it's just all in a day's work. Alis is naive but WHEN she perceives that a wrong has occurred, she'll speak up. Nat is completely self centred, the world could burn so long as her desires are met.
Frame 3-> Complete and utter destruction! How the hell did we get here? This is so wrong, and that's what makes it funny. Welcome to PerryBibleFellowship country. Szin's actions are made even more horrific by the fact that we can see a perfectly good mushroom patch on the other side of the village, fairly untouched. On another level one could say this frame also acts as a commentary on how we treat the natural environment that sustains us. Most of us don't spend a second thought on the damage our consumption causes to the ecosystem we're dependent on for our survival.
Also, they're busty! So... layers upon layers, wheels within wheels, and so on.
Finally, a special thanks to Danamongden. His advice and him pointing me to some free Xero filters helped me to get a bit of a story-book feel to these images. At least that's the feel I was going for.

Well done! Very well done! First, the imagery and framing of each cell looks just like a high end comic, the layout and design are exact! Next, the characters themselves are posed and set very well in their environment. The story itself makes for a plot twist and a cliffhanger while simultaneously tickling the funny bone and throwing a bit of social commentary into the mix. Can you imagine one day picking up a published paperback version of "Busty Elfs in Peril" perhaps soon! It could happen!

Yeah I did notice the patch of mushrooms on the right, before I read your comment... I went back and forth between first frame and last frame and thought, hmmmm dumb and beautiful, and cruel and... Anyway, it's beautifully done and well built. Excellent!

Its because mushrooms scream when you bite into them is why I only eat steak. It doesn't make any sounds when you cut into one nicely cooked. With mushrooms. Okay, so I ignore the little buggers crying "Oh please don't eat us!!" If you eat enough mushrooms, you will hear them converse and watch them cavort, too. Good production elements in this comic strip presentation. Clever concept, too. Love the idea, Busty Elves in Peril.
