Description

This was an image I created for a book project assigned during a graphic design class I took last Spring. The theme of the book was an exploration of the various ways human beings think about time or the ways in which time impacts our lives. This particular image is about history. Somewhere in a forgotten place, a statue of a person has long eroded to the point of being barely recognizable. But the symbols of time, the sundial and the hourglass, remain unworn. The inscription on the sundial is Latin for "Time Rules Life". The only thing that is truly timeless is time itself. The scene was composed and rendered in Vue 6 xStream. The statue was modeled in Poser but textured in Vue using a displacement map to provide both the stone texture and the erosion of surface detail. The sundial and hourglass were modeled in 3D Studio MAX.
