Description

I spent some time at one of the country's premier winter birding spots. This wildlife refuge is famous for its wintering snow geese and sandhill cranes. Their count the week I was there was over 32,000 snow geese and over 7,000 sandhill cranes. This pond was a favorite spot for the snow geese's midday nap. Panorama of four shots, try full size. And check out the very back part of the pond on the far right, where the geese are so thick, it looks like snow! Thanks very much for stopping by!

Oh! Maria I can imagine your joy at seeing so many beautiful wildbirds. Once a year wild geese fly over Bay usually November time. I hear them before I see them flying in formation!!! The joy I feel on seeing them is unexplainable but I am certain you will understand. Your panorama is superb and brings great joy in its wake for me!! Have a beautiful day. Hugs. Diane. xx

OMGosh, you know what? As I was coming home last night after dropping the girls off at hockey practice, I saw about a dozen snow geese/swans/whatever flying SOOOOO low to the ground, just parallel with the road.. i about went OFF the road!! There was no place to stop either.. but when i had the chance to, I saw they had veered off to the north a mile away, and had landed in a little lake. :( no way to get there unless i go to an old farmhouse that looked straight out of Deliverance. no thanks. lol you hit the jackpot with this one!

What an amazing sight this must have been to see in person. I've never seen this many birds in one spot before. Thank you for taking the time to create the pano so that we can enjoy the scene too. You did a super job!

I suppose it is politically incorrect to say this is a hunter's dream...LOL A fabulous shot. We have a place about an hour from my house that is similar for Canadian Geese and Mallards to rest on your journey. I love to sit and watch them rest and interact before continuing their trip. Wonderful shot and a really awesome pano.
