Spacefighter crews always affect to look down on airfighter personnel. It's the old space-versus-atmosphere thing, all over again. Funny thing is: you don't hear spacemarines denigrating airfighters, do you? 'Marines hate doing assaults on to planets with a half-decent air defence. Purpose-built airfighters, properly handled, will defeat space/air hybrids nineteen times out of twenty - usually with the result that, after rattling the hornets' nest, the spacefighters (those that are left) exit the atmosphere as fast as they can, leaving Tommy Atkins alone to face the hornets.
