Description
There was this Jew
my last room mate,
a friendly fellow
and he had cancer
on the esophagus
and he was fed
through a tube
in his stomach
He just got back
from a tour of Israel
when the dragon
took his first bite
But this tour of Israel
man, he talked about it
for hours on end,
he had been
on the Golan Heights,
in Jerusalem,
on the beaches
of Tel Aviv
and he saw
the construction
of the wall, the one
to keep suicide
bombers out
gosh, he was so proud
of this wall
Now all i could think of
was the Chinese wall,
Hadrian's wall,
prison walls
the Berlin wall
and of course
the walls of Jericho
well, i kept my mouth
shut, we were both living
on borrowed time
anyway
so our opinions
hardly mattered
and the last thing
i needed was
a curtain wall
inside a hospital room
people dream
of security
but there is
no hiding
from death
no sanctuary
to be found,
we might as well
take our chances
without
the poison
of fear

Thank you all so much for reading this stuff, and for you very supportive comments. I have one more chemo session to go, and then i'm out of the claws of the dragon. But it's still heavy, i sleep 16 hours a day, and there is no way to create anything, but these short stories. At least in this way i'm staying in contact with all of you beautiful people :-)
Have a GREAT day/night

Sounds like you had a tour of Israel yourself through the words of your room mate. I'd like to visit there some day myself. You just go ahead and sleep. Your body is regenerating. :)

Without the poison of fear. Words to remember, to live by. Your writing is as awesome as your art work is. Just remember that your rest now is most important, taking care of yourself now must be number 1 on your list. Keeping the walls down is part of that. I'm honored that you allow us to walk with you, to share in your fight against the dragon, cancer. All we, I, can give back is prayer.

You are an amazing man Dirk! Your strength is in that you can admit your fear and share your fight and recovery with us. You keep fighting that dragon and sharing this wonderful talent of yours. Bunny

Girjm you are so right in this matter !! Fear is the opposite of Love !

Your words bring pain and pleasure to my heart. Pain because it's no fantasy but something you really have to go through. Pleasure because your poetry is as excellent as your art. Keep on fighting. You will win!

You are creating and sharing more than others can ever do. And I also think you are an amazing person like Bunny says. Keep up my friend, and some day you shall remember all this like another experience of life, although it's a hard one! Hugs, Elizabeth ;O)

Life is too short to spend it building walls. I celebrate your willingness to share your experience, especially when it would be so easy to crawl behind a wall of silence. Thank you for your poetry. Every time I read your work, a little piece of my soul is healed.

You are creating.. not visual art, but creating all the same. You are giving us glimpses into something most could never imagine. In your journey through that dark hell, you are casting light. Thank you so much for sharing what you are going through. {{{hugs}}}

Three days now, multiple readings later, I still can't find sufficient words. They all fail. On extremely, extremely rare occasion, something comes along that finds its way to the core of you..moves like a current..and vacuums up all the descriptives from within. This is one of those times...because... this is one rare and extraordinary creation. I'll just quietly hang on every syllable..and absorb. Own this one fully, dear man.. one of your very best ever, imho...(((Dirk)))
