Description
This was the most amazing building i saw over there. You know what mountain in the background of the other shots... "waynu picchu"... well it is pretty much vertical on the sides you can see. Well this thing was built about 20m below the peak on insanely steep terracing. I uploaded a video on photobucket for you to see, which was taken on a platform up near the peak. The house in question is the first thing you see and you see it as i come round again after looking at the peak on the vid:

The niche you see in the wall is there because the inca used to use it to put important items in totems and the like. You may also note that everything door or windolike follows the trapezoid shape with a single rock (often two laid side by side) bridging the top of the door where european architecture would probably have relied on the arch - cant say i ever saw or remembered seeing an arch in incan architecture...
As you may well realise, this house was two storied. The top of the smaller outer wall has a level (two stones down from the top - you can see it more if you look at the corner) built into it where floorboards would be placed. I cant quite remember the details of what they thought this house was, but i was told that generally if it were living quarters the people would be downstairs and the animals/produce upstairs - whether they had animals up here i dont know. But the other interesting thing is that as this house is built on a terrace, the side wall to the right (out of frame) is actually the mountainside/terrace wall for the terrace above). So access to the upastairs was by an outside staircase to the terrace above. A very interesting way of building "high rise".
Apart from that i cant think of any more tidbits. Hope the vid gives you a sense and feel of the place, something more than a still photo will do i suppose.
Enjoy!
Rich.

Gorgeous B&W convert. I really love it. TI notice there is a lot of fall off in the bottom left of your images using the Sigma Ultra Wide Angle :(
