Description

Just past the Castletown turn off on N-52 is the road to Lobinstown. It is on this road that the Old Killary graveyard is located. The slightly inclined path to the graveyard is well graveled, making the walk very nice. Parts of this graveyard are well kept, other parts left untended, but the remains of the medieval church are beautiful, overgrown as it is with vines and small plants, some of them flowering profusely. We found all that remains of the shaft of this ninth century cross, along with the base of another. There are so many amazing things to discover in these old, obscure graveyards, always from another time, another place.
