Description

The HMS Victory model is from DAZ. I bought it for I wanted to analyse other modeler's methods, but I couldn't help myself to render it with my new sea. Making an ocean that is detailed and flexible enough for close-ups and could stretch to the horizon at the same time is a task I've working on for pretty long time by now. Sea on this image was made simultanously for Bryce and Carrara - both programs handle objects and materials different way, but principles are the same. I've chosen this POV (bird's perspective with horizon visible) because it's IMO most difficult and rare (not pretty). Lighting: sun(slightly yellow), pair of spotlights behind the camera(one yellow other blue) and Horo's "BlueGreyMoon" HDRI - thanks Horo! Normal AA - and I'm sorry for it now, I wish it was premium..

Looks good, but she is sitting a bit low. Her lowest gunports are just about water level, which is not right. She would be in danger of sinking if just one port were open. (there is a precedent: the HMS Royal George, a sister-ship to the Victory, sank in 1782, when she was being heeled at an angle to allow for minor repairs while in harbor, her lowest ports were inundated with water, sinking her and killing over 800 crew and guests, including the ship's Admiral Kempenfelt.... oops, sorry for the history lesson...) Raise her up just a little, about where the lowest black strake (stripe) under the lowest ports would meet the water. Otherwise, a great scene.
