Description

Here's yet another bird created for my "Yucatan" series. I've actually seen this bird in Belize in an area called Lamanaii (Mayan for "Submerged Crocodile" --btw... swimming in the river isn't recommended). Our ornithologist guide got us up in the pitch black before dawn and brought us deep into the jungle. We gather again some Mayan ruins and huge fig tree, waiting for first light. Our guide then started chanting "Whoop whoop... whoop, whoop". I whispered to my wife, "like that's going to attract anything". After a minute of "whoop, whooping" and was shocked to hear a returned "Whoop, whoop". "Probably another guide", I snickered. Moments later, two Blue-crowned Motmots appear in the canopy less than 15 feet away, to check us out. As you can see, it's a truly amazing bird with is brillant colors and racket-like tail. From there, we climbed to the top of the Jaguar temple and watched flocks of Amazon parrots fly overhead. The Blue-crowned Motmot is a not threatened species and is the only Motmot to successfully reproduce in capitivty. It is found in Central and South America countries, ranging from northeastern Mexico to northwestern Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia, Trinidad, and northern Argentina. Motmots are primarily insect eaters and occasionally accompany a swarm of army ants to catch the insects, spiders, lizards and other creatures which the ants drive from concealment in the ground foliage. Rendered in Poser7 with no postwork. Models: Songbird Remix Yucatan, Perching Place (Me/DAZ), Old Wood, jungle plants, pre-Columbian temple (J.Ward/RDNA) Next on my list is the Resplendent Quetzal...
