Description

While visiting a small art gallery in Southport, NC, one of the owners took me out to their courtyard to show off her young banana tree. Being originally from Northeast U.S., she had never seen one of these trees before moving south and was very excited that this was the first year hers had produced fruit. The pod hanging below those first immature bananas is another bunch that will be next to pop out.

Fabulous capture! I bet she was thrilled that you wanted to take pictures of her plant. (Did you know the banana "tree" is actually an herb?)

I grew banana trees for years in my yard, here in Middle Tennessee...even sold them when I counted more than 100 trees! We could only fit so many in the crawl space of the house to overwinter then reset when it warmed in the spring. The tallest were over 12ft tall, lovely blooms and fruit!
