After creating an Ayahuasca style pic, I decided I needed some DNA strands to add to it.. This is what I came up with. This pic was also inspired by the book: The Cosmic Serpent: DNA And The Origins Of Knowledge, by Jeremy Narby. All I can say is that this book is a real eye-opener. I never had any idea... Here are a few exerpts;
'The main enigma I encountered during my research on Ashaninca ecology was that these extremely practical and frank people, living almost autonomously in the Amazonian forest, insisted that their extensive botanical knowlédge came from plant induced hallucinations. How could this be true?
The enigma was all the more intriguing because the botanical knowledge of indigenous Amazonians has long astonished scientists. The chemical composition of Ayahuasca is a case point. The brew is a necessary combination of two plants, which mmust be boiled together for hours. The first contains a halluginogenic substance, dimethyltriptamine, which also seems to be secreted by the human brain; but this hallucinogen has no effect when swallowed, because an enzyme called monoamine oxidase blocks it. The second plant, however, contains several substances that inactivate this precise stomach enzyme, allowing the hallucinogen to reach the brain...
So here are people without electron microscopes who choose, among some 80 000 Amazonian plant species, the leaves of a bush containing a hallucinogenic bain hormone, which the combine with a vine containing substances that inactivate an enzyme of the digestive tract, which would otherwise block the hallucinogenic effect. And they do this to modify their consciousness.
It is as if the knew about the molecular properties of plants and the art of combining them, and when one asks them how they know these things, they say their knowledge comes directly from hakkucingenic plants....'
'If one stretches out the DNA contained in the nucleas of a human cell, one obtains a two-yard long thread that is only ten atoms wide. This thread is a billion times longer than its own width...'
'The DNA found in a human body is long enough to wrap around the Earth 5million times...'
That ended up being a little longer than I had expect.. Best fullsize 1600x1200

Excellent life science image. I'm sure would have commercial value in corporate work for biotech. Great stuff.

I work at a company that uses recombinatorial DNA so it is an excellent write-up and your render is even better. High marks indeed!

Sounds like an interesting read to me.....I'm an avid reader and a firm believer in the notion that much of the wisdom from ancient cultures has been lost to us or simply forgotten over the years....I've also been up the Amazon a few times (I spent 23 yrs as a merchant Seaman)..and as our motto was "if it does'nt harm the locals....I'll try it"....lol...I was partial to a few hallucinogenics now and then myself......^_^......I must look that book up man...sounds good!! Nice image BTW.
