Description

The flight deck officers and ordnance handlers prepare Warren Henry’s SBD “Dauntless” Dive bomber to launch from the deck of USS Enterprise CV-6. Below on the hangar deck Lt. Robert R. Kirk frets as a stuck elevator has his F4F Wildcat trapped, and will make a coordinated attack on the enemy force at Midway Island impossible. The Dive Bombers and “Devastator” torpedo planes had to be launched first to clear way for the fighters. `alah shamayim yarad 'acaph ruwach chophen tsarar mayim simlah quwm 'ephec 'erets shem ben shem yada` Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in his cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and the name of his son? Tell me if you know! Proverbs 30:4 Credits: USS Enterprise CV-6 = USS Essex by Sky Pilot of Beyond + Fletcher class destroyer parts by DeEspona SBD Dauntless by Oleg Petrenkov at Gunpoint3D + P47 Thunderbolt landing gear by Bazze OM set by RHS at Daz Flak88 by Barry Gibson in Freestuff

The ship has only to turn to establish wind over deck. (W.O.D.) In shallow waters with poor charts this might be impossible requiring steam into the true wind. Then there is the matter of keeping the pointy end toward the enemy.
