Description

I have this plant potted on my porch, although I don't know what it is. It's usually rather plain and green, but every now and then it turns this bright red on top and sprouts tiny purple flowers in the middle. I thought it was too pretty not to share... so here you go! I used a Sony Alpha 100 DSLR and photoshop7. Tips and comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking. :) -John

this is a gorgeous bromeliad. I dont' know that I've seen one with these little flowers inside. I'll have to be more observant! This really is a wonderful macro. Are you using a tripod when you do them? When doing flowers or other non-moving subjects, tripods can make even the best macro better. Great color and pov on this one!

I love the color and POV here...the tiny blossoms centering the image add so much to it, I guess because they're unexpected in so many ways. Great work, and I love the play on expectations, as your POV has a wonderfully playful element...the position in which you've taken the photograph tricks the observer into thinking that he/she is looking at the innards of a blossom, only the placement of the blossoms themselves lets you know that you're not actually seeing what you thought, a moment ago, you just saw. I love tiny perceptual shifts like this in photography!
