Description
Colonial officer Dee Zodiac lent back on her bolli. She was glad of the body warmth Chas was giving off as the desert chill was begging to bite but she’d have to move soon. Bollis had been known to roll over in their sleep and wakening up with several ton on top of her wasn’t the most appealing idea. So it was off to her bed roll and the warmth of the fire. She looked around to check the sonic net which would warn her of any nastiest that might get curious. The only real danger where the Zubarra, like the one she’d encountered earlier in the day, but they weren’t normally active at night.
At dawn she’d continue on to the Corporation outpost about half a day away, pick up the mail and any reports. Then a day and a half journey back to the settlement she was responsible for. Still this trip was only once a month and the settlers were an easy enough group to look after. The occasional domestic row or boundary dispute between farmsteads where the worst she had to deal with. Once a month a few drunken miners from the Corporation mine got to spend a night in the cooler but The Corp picked them up for work and paid for any damages.
She looked over at the camp bed. Time to move. She checked the net alarm again, said “goodnight Chas” and turned in for the night.
A follow up to Dune Patrol elsewhere on this gallery. A plot line begins to form but I’m slow and still learning.
