Description

For much of it's life, Hadrian's Wall was the furthest point from Roman in the empire. It was also one of the most disliked postings for a soldier... Scratch built in Cinema 4, rendered in Vue 6 A bit of history... This is a reconstruction of one of the many milecastles built along Hadrian's Wall. It was originally built on the orders of Emperor Hadrian following his visit to Britain in 122AD. The wall runs for 80 miles (128km) in a slight arch pattern until it arrives at the east coast at South Shields. The total distance coast to coast is 73 miles (117km) if measured in a straight line. This was a major defence point in Roman Britain and this is shown in the number of forts that were stationed alongside the wall. Milecastles were placed every mile along the length of the wall. Smaller turrets or towers were placed inbetween the milecastles to ensure that every inch of the wall could be seen during daylight. Thanks for viewing!

Absolutely brilliant! Is this akin to Hadrian's or the Apinine wall ? Love the lighting, modelling and concept. 5

Graet work, my friend... the wall of Hadrian was a part of the limes, the fortified line between empire citizens and barbarians... Your image are always awesome and historically accurate! 5+++++ and FAVORITE!

Well, you've presented a beautiful and peaceful scene - can't understand why a Roman soldier wouldn't want a posting here! (very different in wintertime of course). An impressively modelled and presented scene - the terrain and vegetation looks just right - well done!
