A great work Nikolay, your sympathetic choice of texture and images for the background and the use of sepia make this a social document to be treasured. A wonderful dedication to your grandparents. Excellent!!

Wow, this seems to be like the bark of a tree where all the history of growth is recorded. Wonderful idea.

I don't have a single picture of my grandparents. They are gone yet. Your 'montage' is great.

Greetings Nikolay, What you write is so very true of many families and it is sad, for we are forgetting our ancestors, the very roots of who we are. Because my parents divorced and because there was bad blood between the families, I have no photographs, not even one of my own father. However it goes much deeper in this digital age, as I fear we will lose even more history as digital files are never dusted off and viewed, passed around in a family gathering. Then there is also the hard drive failure threatening our very history, including those technical changes to come and we will not be able to view the files. We are on the brink of becoming extinct! Thank you for sharing. egmont

wonderfully done! My great-grandfather taught at the University of Reval (Talinn). When the Tsarist government made Russian compulsory as the language of tuition in all universities, my great-grandfather and his family moved to Germany (about 1905). (As a result, my grandfather fought and lost two world wars in a grey uniform - but that's another story).
