A recurring character from a Hawkmoon campaign, a variant of the RPG Stormbringer, set in the “Tragic Millennium Earth” of Michael Moorcock’s novels. “They were lead into a large chamber lined with funeral niches, many of which housed the candles that illuminated the gloomy space. In its center stood a stone throne, upon which sat a haggard old man dressed in rich robes, and before him knelt a scantly clad, lovely, young girl. She looked up as they entered, her expression one of hopelessness, while her master’s face showed only contempt and annoyance. “Who disturbs the Rat?” he demanded, in a squally voice befitting his title, as his eyes darted between them… lingering on Victoria and Sabrae. “They are enemies of the Dark Empire, my lord,” their guide announced. “Are they,” the Rat eyes gleamed. “The Dark Empire grants rich rewards for its enemies!” “Such rewards are only collected in hell,” Syn snapped back. “No man threatens the Rat in his own throne room!” he shot back, signaling his brutish guards forward from the shadows. Narmir and Victoria exchanged knowing looks and smiles, as Syn’s returned his failure reply… “I am no MAN… I am a Dragon Lord of Melnibone!”” If any who knew him before he became lord of the “Sewer Rats” still live, they keep his true name to themselves. To all the world, he is “the Rat”: lord of Parye’s underworld. No crime is committed in his city with out his knowledge, and profit… except those of the Dark Empire. Once just one of many crime lords in the “City of Light”, the Rat orchestrated a serious of gang wars that left his guild the sole survivor, and him its undisputed lord. Daeron Syn, Narmir, Victoria of Wight and Sabrae D’Nyt, seek the Rat’s help when they discover that the children of Parye taken hostage by the Dark Empire are being used in Granbretan’s sorcerer-scientists twisted experiments, and aid the “resistance” in smuggling them out of the city. Although reluctant to risk his organization at first, even the Rat finds the Granbretan’s’ atrocities too much to ignore. But when he tries to betray the resistance cell to the occupying Dark Empire forces, his “Sewer Rats” turn on him. Not one of my typically svelte male figures, so I added a little eye candy!
