Description

I was out walking on the river levee again the other day and it was really windy. There were about 6 or 7 red tail hawks flying right over my head, gliding on the thermals. It was almost like they were teasing me, they'd get almost close enough to get that perfect shot. Then I'd look away, and the next second, another one would fly up out of the brush almost in my face. This is the best shot I could get, these guys were really having a good time, making fun of this silly human with her camera!!!

striking shot in its simplicity and near-monochrome tincture... you could call it 'blue thermal' - the term we glider pilots use to describe thermals not marked by cumulus clouds - as a play on words...

Marilyn, when I take pictures of any bird, they dissapear from sight, I see them point the camera and they have gone. We have to make the best of what we can, and this is a very good best in my book. Great capture. Bravo!!!!!

This is an amazingly gorgeous capture! I love the fact that you caught the bird rather than just a blur as I would have done. :-) Fantastic work! I especially love the sense of color you captured, it makes the whole thing seem so "right there" real.

How lovely and the "fingers" on its wings are so distinct. Just gorgeous.

Down by the levee, in old Alabamee, there's Ephram and Sammy.... Terrific and momentous capture of the magnificent and free-as-a-bird raptor, Marilyn, gliding overhead in all its splendor.
