Description

Finally I've managed to finish this image. Well, finished, it's never finished ;) I had an idea of placing BIG boulders here and there with nice displacements and texturing. I had it all worked out but I couldn't manage to get the image mask working properly. I created the image mask by painting a b&w mask on top of the the original image (white where I want the stones to be) and then applying it using through camera projection. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work properly. Perhaps I've to start a topic about this in the discussion section, because I really don't understand why. Ok, about the image... I've reduced the crack-effect and also lowered the density of the populations, which was quite denser in the test renders and also the small crop I've posted about the crash a few days ago. The combination of displacements, specularity/reflectivity and dense populations was the reason of the crash. This one took about 29 hours to render. I'm considering to re-render it at higher quality and resolution once I have my quad-core system up and running, but for now I consider it finished. Please let me know what you think of it :) Martin p.s. for a more detailed insight of how this image is created please visit: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2905.0

J'accroche pas sur les arbres (échelle - trop ou pas assez nombreux ??)Par contre le terrain, les structures et textures sont réussies. Bonne mise en lumière et jolies couleurs !!

What do you mean about the trees Joel? I don't speak french that much, you see.

I think he is saying that the vegetation population is too numerous; however, if you go online and check out the photos of 'Sedona', Monument Valley or the Grand Canyon area, you'll find that your choice of population is right on! I think you need to write and publish an 'in depth', step-by-step tutorial on how you achieved this marvelous piece of geology. This is fantastic work Martin.

Verdomd goed beeld! Maar vegetatie in TG2 blijft toch ietwat problematisch. Het lijkt niet eenvoudig om ze een natuurlijke aanblik te geven, het is iets met de distributie... Nogmaals, verder een subliem beeld!

Phyllo said that there is a problem with trees (scale -too much or not enough trees?) but otherwise he likes light, terrain, texture and all ;) i already told you my opinion on Planetside... i don't like the trees... perhaps as calico said you should try a kind of forest on the ground and leave the big structure naked :) anyway, i really love the terrain and the texture !

The rock and stratas are awesome, great colors too but I'm not sure about the trees (too small). Nice work.

Again looks great, but when i saw the previous versions i had no idea that the scale was supposed to be that big, i thought maybe what we can see was a meter or 2 across, not an entire canyon across!

Uhmm... as the others, there is something wrong in the trees scale. The rest is excellent

Scale seems to be an issue here, and before I read the comments I thought I was looking at the foot of a rock face from a distance of a few meters and therefore didn't perceive any trees. And as a rock face it is excellent with a wonderfully detailed texture.
