Description
This strange visitor showed up at my place of work Monday, and luckily I had time available and a camera on hand.
This is supposedly the last of the Boeing B377SGT Super Guppy Turbines left flying. It was one of 4 built by Boeing for Airbus, to move airliner parts around Europe. From Airbus it went to the European Space Agency, and from there it went to NASA.
It's big, it's shiny, and it's weird. What more could you want?

I think you have the story mixed up with the Beluga. I have seen this bird or a twin offloading DC-10 fuselages at Douglas Long Beach after it's role lifting S-IVB stages to NASA was over. I remember when the front of it blew in due to structural weakness during testing at Edwards. I was watching it because of a big nose we put on a KC-135 for A/RIA.

Big and shiny are good. Add NOISY and you have a real winner! ;-)

Tallpindo: I'm getting my information from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Guppy "Only one Super Guppy remains in service: an SGT flown by NASA. The other four are mothballed; the SG at Pima Air and Space Museum, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, the first SGT at Bruntingthorpe, UK, the second outside Airbus' factories at Blagnac Airport, Toulouse, France, and the third at Finkenwerder, Germany." Weesel: You can add "smelly" to the litany as well. As it steamed by on roll-out, we were enveloped by a fog of partially burned kerosene....
