Description

When I was a young boy we never celebrated Christmas. You see my father worked 2 jobs and my mother too. Matter of fact the only time they saw each other was Sundays and they spent all morning in bed reading the Sunday paper and relaxing. I wasn't negleted, oh no. My grandmother stayed with us and took great care of me. Once a year my aunt and cousin would come over for a nice dinner and we would sing happy birthday to baby Jesus. It wasn't until I started going to school that I ever heard of Christmas and gifts and Santa. The other children laughed and said mean things when I didn't understand. Well you can imagine how confused I was and went home and asked my grandmother what this was all about. She explained my aunt's husband was in prison and that she was very ill. They both worked 2 jobs to support her and my cousin. They were too tired for gifts and decorations and such. She asked if I understood and if I was ok. I said yes and was very proud of them. Well the years passed and I got married and had my own sons and we celebrate Christmas in the traditional way. As each grew older and in school the other children told them there was no Santa they would come home upset and full of questions. Isat each one of them down and let them ask their questions. I would think of my father, look them in the eye and say "Of course there's a Santa and I'm one of the lucky ones who met him in person." Not a true story but it could be. Actually it was inspired by Delbeke's wonderful stories. We do sing happy birthday on Christmas eve but that's my wife's tradition, certain;y not mine....lol Thank you all so much for your comments, encouragement and friendship for this is the greatest gift of all. I wish you all the best of hollidays

Gorgeous character, love her outfit and wings...so much detail and beautiful textures, lighting is fantastic, the tree so life like...After having read your words with a tear in my eyes I had a smile on my face at the end...your parents must be amazing people...hearts of gold and whom worked so hard to give you and others love and peace...sometimes children's words can be so hurtful...thank God for grandparents who make it all better again...lovely story and thank you for sharing it with us...Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Steve you wonderful joker lol! You had me choking here for a minute with your story until I got to the end and you were kidding!..that brought a smile to my face lol! However a lot of what you wrote is so true, bullying at school and cruel remarks from other kids can so easily shatter a kids dreams, of course theres a Santa! and there will always be. He don't come down my chimney anymore, but I will forgive him for that, could'nt get down anyway cos the seagulls have built a nest there lol! Absolutely beautiful Christmas scene you created Steve, the little Angel is gorgeous in that beautiful outfit. Excellent! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family, hope you have a great one.

wonderful story Pops and art work.my family was very poor when I was growing up and I only had my mother.she cleaned peoples homes and took in ironing.we also got a small assistance from welfare.she would put a shirt or pants in the layaway maybe 9 months before Christmas and slowly pay until it was December.the only toys we got was from the Salvation Army and I was happy to have them.we had hardly anything of value but did have the love of our mother.and like the saying "love makes the world go round".so happy you were able to post
