Description

The first volume of the Cycle of Trantor, which it constitutes with "Tyrann" and "the Currents of space", "Stones in the sky" (Pebbles in the Sky, Gallimard 1953) puts in scene a living anonymity of Chicago, suddenly projected during routine and night walk in a future distance. Mislaid, become exiled temporal good in spite of him, the old man will discover a Ground soiled by an antique conflict, radioactive, inhabited by a scattered population having habit to get rid of his old men for lack of sufficient resources. This world in forfeiture is part from now on of the suburbs of second zone of an immense galactic empire directed since Trantor, which treats it with contempt and virulence, repressing any form of rebellion systematically and imposing a heavy supervision to him.
