Description

Christmas 2007 decorations are up. I finished everything on 12/16/07 (except the wrapping of the gifts…Claire and I will be doing that tonight and tomorrow). We are ready to receive our guests on the 24th and 25th of December. I am sharing these photos with you because you were all so very kind with your words and even a few of you voiced that you would like to see how this year’s endeavor would turn out, that I felt compelled to share these. Thank you very much!! Here is a small sample of how it all turned out this year. The original design for this year was to be gold and white. As a matter of fact, I had already purchased lots of gold stuff. But since Claire’s favorite color is blue and while at a department store a the beginning of this month she was admiring some blue ornaments, I decided to do this for her and change this year’s scheme from gold to blue. It was a good thing that I had some blue stuff from some years ago which I was able to use this time around. For example the dark blue beads I used on the top mask I bought at Stitches East (55East 52 Street, New York, N.Y. on 5/6/96) and they were purchase to make the blue/white amulet purse (11 years old) adorning the neck area of the top Carnevale di Venezia mask. All the way at the bottom where I show the materials used, you can see the three piles of these blue beads resting on the little plastic bags in which they came. These are bought sometimes by piece, sometimes by weight. I worked on these masks in our basement and converted the bar area into a workshop for a few days. :o) The fireplace mantel has little decoration other than the Christmas ornaments. I only used three accent pieces on the mantel this year. Close to the piano is a Delft vase which belonged to James Gandolfini’s (The Sopranos) mom. ON the other side of that fireplace there is a side porch. Right after that there is the house that belonged to the Gandolfini’s until the summer of 2006 when it was sold after the death of Jame’s father. Anyway, to make the story short, his Mom used to collect lots of beautiful things. Last summer I bought from the Gandolfini’s that Delft base (his sister added a couple of other items at no charge because we lived next door…wonderful people). I bought a swan plate (I collect swan stuff amongst other things), and a red/clear crystal vase. At the center of the fireplace, in a nest of white and light blue yarn there is a cobalt blue heart by Elsa Peretti from Tiffany & Co. in New York that I bought for Claire in 2001. Balancing the Blue Delft, on the opposite side there is a white glass apple. PJ, if you read this… I thought much about you as I looked as the photos I took. I kept thinking about your cataloguing of Christmas decorations and wondered how you would catalogue this decoration. The work “gaudy” kept coming to mind. LOL!! But I hope you like it anyway. :o) Clemente

My gosh Clemente, it keeps getting better! This years decorations are fantastic! What a wonderful sense of beauty you have and the wonderful way you celebrate this wonderful season! If you aen't already (I don't know your occupation) you should put your talents to set or window decoration. You would win awards! Excellent work and so original. Your guests will be overwhelmed. :o) A Merry Merry and safe Christmas to you and Claire! Alexis xox

Not gaudy at all...its up there in the Classy catagory and I'd expect to pay BIG to have this sort of decorating done. Geez, to start with, there is a THEME! My theme is the same every year... If there is a 2 inch x 2 inch space unused, stick something Christmasy in it! If I run out of room while unloading my 8 packing boxes of stuff, I hang it from the ceiling! But what you have done is orchestrated (good word, huh? LOL) and syncronized. Tastefully and artistically balanced. AND I see you have a white sofa! Geez! The only thing white in my house are the baseboards! I know better. I own nothing white. If I lived in the snow, I can bet even the snow around my house would be stained and discolored. You are just incredible and you ought to hire out your talents for the season. These are just excellent shots of really excellent Christmas cheer!

Everything looks exquisite and I am happy you posted these. I was excited to see more of them. How on earth did you come by James Gandolfini's mothers vase? Do you mean his real mom, or the woman who played her on The Soprano show? You have the midas touch with decorating!

Thank you friends. You are something else, you know that? angelbears, thank you for the thumbs up on this one. :) Alexis, merci bien pour le fave! :) Vous vous êtes vraiment gentille...un énorme bisou à vous!!! Also thank you for the Christmas wishes. Wishing you and your family a very merry and peaceful Christmas! PJ, LOL!! I love your theme as well. :) I also try using every square inch available. I do not always succeed, though. Oh! I do like "orchestrated"...It is, indeed, a good word! ~grin~ Thank you very much PJ. I did think about you a lot as I did this. :) Take care of you and stay well. Jo, thank you. I am glad that you liked the decorations. :o) Suze, a big thank you. To answer your question...the real one. :)) ...and I will be writing to you privately in a few minutes, so expect a letter from me. Tony, mi amigo! Gracias for su visita and por dejarme una notita diciéndome que le agradó nuestra decoracion navideña. Espero que todo marche bien por Barcelona, y que pase usted unas Navidades llenas de felicidad y que el año que se acerca le traiga mucha prosperidad. bakapo, thank you for your visit and for your encouragement. No, the house does not look like that all the time. Only during Christmas and sometimes, but not always, during Thanksgiving. :) krakosky, le agradezco mucho su visita y sus palabras; muchas gracias por ambas. Feliz Navidad a usted también!!! originalkitten, thank you for your kind words. Yes, the masks are freaky, specially when all the lights in the livingroom and the dining room are off. If you see that, it would truly freak you out...they look like ghosts. :p My thanks and appreciation to all of you! Clemente
