Description
My source tells me, if you go down Frogswamp Alley and turn left on Acorn Lane you will come to number 18. It is an inconspicuous little shop. You may even walk right past it, it's so nondescript. But something very special goes on there, especially at Christmas time. It is a beehive of activity. There the Tailor Elves work. They are expert tailors and renowned for their excellent craftsmanship. But on November 30 on the dot of midnight all custom clothing ceases. Or so I've been told. :o)
There have been many deliveries in unmarked carts going up and down the Alley, filled with exotic fabrics, buttons, trims, bows and all kinds of shiny things sent from the South by Esmeralda the Gypsy Witch. All to be stored in the Elf warehouse until November 30. Then at the stoke of midnight there is a scurry of activity of comings and goings of the Elf Tailors along a deep trodden path.
There is an air of excitement that floats through the Forest and Village, each day nearing Christmas it heightens. Inside the cozy shop the Elves are busy at work making the prized Harlequin Dolls. They are one of kind dolls that are given only at Christmas. They are supposed to bring good cheer and luck to the household they inhabit for the coming year. The more dolls that are collected the cheerier the household at Christmas. You must put your order in for a doll way before the summer is over. You can image the work that goes into them and they are perfect. After the dolls are lovingly made, they are put under the Christmas Tree to soak up the magic and spirit of Christmas. Hey, don't look at me like that, this is what I am told. Geesh, doubters...anyway, after they have enough spirit and cheer they are gaily wrapped in special paper of multicolor with big bows and carefully labeled, then loaded into the carts for delivery.
The Elves also make the velvet Christmas stockings that are left on every door in the Forest and Village and I am told this not an easy feat, finding the doors where some Fairies live is not always apparent. But, the Elves who are in charge of deliveries always seem to find them. They are filled with those exotic and delicious treats from the South that Esmeralda always sends. Chocolate Dollops with snow sprinkles, Blueberry Whips, hard Raspberry Crunchels that last the whole day, Carmel Mudtussels with cherry topping and those much loved and fattening Pecan Pudgies, delicate Christmas confections made and decorated in the old style of Christmas. All wrapped in splendid foils of red, green, gold and silver and carefully put in a velvet stocking ready for delivery on Christmas Eve.
If you didn't make your order for a Harlequin Christmas Doll, you are out of luck. You will not get one. No excuses, no pleading or money will get you one. But, if on Christmas Eve you think you hear the rattle and squeak of little wheels on the crunchy snow, or it could be just the wind tossing a branch. But then again, it just may be the Elves leaving a velvet stocking filled with wondrous things from the Forest ... or coal and orange peels for those doubters out there...or so it has been said. :o)

It looks so cozy--I have always liked how thread spools look on the rack, and it's delightful to see them here! I bet on Dec 26th they all sit around the fire with their feet up, though! hehe!
