Description
A Merry Christmas to all.
Middleton Parish Church of St.Leonards.
Sections of the church dated as far back as 1120 and later 1412. The stucture standing today was completed by Sir Richard Assheton in the year 1524.
Sir Richard was granted a knighthood by
Henry Vlll for the part he played in the Battle of Flodden Field 1513. He rebuilt and extended the church built by Cardinal Thomas Langley in 1412 who at that time was Bishop of Durham and Chancellor of England born in Langley Hall, Middleton. Sections of Langley's church remain as do two Arches built of stonework from a Norman Church 1120.

The only thing still standing around here in this country that was created in 1120 is a couple of old trees in the mountains! Amazing this church would be so old. Lovely shot of it. The snow and the view set a wonderful mood.

This is a stunning shot, my friend. I'm pretty near some cultural artifacts that were a bustling affair when the Romans were deciding how to make a calendar.
