I've read a good deal of your pdfs of the highly inventive (and painstaking) Canals of New Mars, and will give more comments ahead, but today I wanted to give one comment per gallery to wish a great holiday to everyone. So I looked for a christmas image from you---and oh my! How did I miss this? I'm telling you, your early gallery is explosive! This is both fun, surreal and deconstructive in the best sense: You're looked inside a whole lot of symbols not only of christmas but of the western world overall, and left a primal presence in its place. I don't know if I can even explain that, but it's there. You've got the Venus of Urbino back there (spelling?!), which is so bold for a christmas image, even though Titian captured a humanity that is totally fitting for the best meanings of the day. And a sneaking cat, wonderfully creeping over the gifts. You've got stuff from the Nutcracker, I think, childhood images for sure; drum & toys & what looks like a miniature animal out of the Serengeti---a scene from a Magritte painting or out of a Buñuel film ("Exterminating Angel" comes to mind---if you haven't seen it, people at a party are visited by bears & sheep, and even break open the walls for water because for some inexplicable reason they can't seem to leave, even though the doors are totally open.) A wonderful world where everything is upside down and where the usual symbols of comfort & ease are beset by spirits far more primal and core than the usual christmas fare. And that's probably what everyone needs for the holiday. Well a wonderful holiday to you, Flavia, and a wonderful new year too. And I'll be back soon after the holiday, for more. And thank you for your constant presence & support in my gallery: It's always much appreciated. Merry/happy Christmas, I hope it's wonderful for you!!!
