Just think carbon sublimes at 4000 degress. If it met oxygen at that temperature it would form CO2 that was no different than the CO2 that forms in rotting leaves. Or would it? No two rocks on earth or on Mars formed from silicon dioxide are the same. Just because the difference is invisible doesn't mean it's not there.
