Des grandes nébuleuses jumelles sont celles du Lagon et la Trifide. L'éloignement de la nébuleuse Trifide est très incertain. Elle est associée à un amas d'étoiles, mais les estimations de la distance à cet amas varient énormément entre 2700 et plus de 5200 années lumière. Une distance d'environ 4000 années lumière semble probablement la distance la plus raisonnable pour la nébuleuse et son amas stellaire. Great twin nebulas are those of the Lagoon and Trifide. The distance of Trifide nebula is very dubious. It is associated a star cluster, but the estimates of the distance to this cluster vary enormously between 2700 and more than 5200 years light. A distance of approximately 4000 years light seems probably the most reasonable distance for nebula and its stellar cluster. Große Zwillingsnebel sind jene der Lagune und Trifide. Die Entfernung des Trifide-Nebels ist sehr unsicher. Sie ist mit einem Sternhaufen verbunden, aber die Schätzungen der Distanz an diesem Haufen variieren gewaltig zwischen 2700 und mehr als 5200 Jahre Licht. Eine Distanz von ungefähr 4000 Jahren Licht scheint wahrscheinlich die vernünftigste Distanz für den Nebel und ihren Sternhaufen. Grandi nébuleuses geminati sono quelle della laguna e Trifide. La distanza della nébuleuse Trifide è molto dubbia. È associata ad un mucchio di stelle, ma le stime della distanza a questo mucchio variano enormemente tra 2700 ed oltre 5200 anni luce. Una distanza di circa 4000 anni luce sembra probabilmente la distanza più ragionevole per il nébuleuse ed il suo mucchio stellare.
