Description

------------- Tales of the Silver Gryphon - Demonhunter's Oath

"The things you have recovered from the dragon's lair in Friggia will have to remain here for a time. There is no way to contact the Church of Avandor, and they would not be receptive if we did. You should know better than most how they look upon the magic users of Callona, mage or priest. I shudder to think of what they'd think of an old Bard turned Demonhunter."

Lord Corthellian's smile was genuine, as it always was, and his towering height made him look down through a bushy brow, perhaps making him seem wiser than he was, perhaps not. Asha smiled back, trying not to flash too much fang. That was something she noticed since being brought back from the brink of oblivion. Amongst normal humans, she spent more time hiding her true nature than she did just living. But she never felt she had to hide anything from the Silver Gryphon and certainly not from the one who could simply see her and know she was not undead.

"Then what is to become of them, Lordship?"

"Please, Asha. How many times do I have to ask you to simply call me Hercanos?"

"Until you are no longer my master, Lordship."

Asha grinned a mischievous grin, something she hadn't done since childhood all those centuries ago.

"Very well. Follow me."

They headed upstairs to a wing of Syvasgaard no longer occupied since the Sisters of Isis moved to the Temple at Kar'Dhaer. In one of the chambers that had been converted to a shrine, all the trappings of the Holy Symballan Church had been removed. An Avandorian cross, probably brought here at some expense, sat where the ankh had once been. Braziers of holy fire, Saint Bridgette's fire, sat to either side of the altar. Asha reflexively knelt and crossed herself. Lord Corthellian merely smiled. Asha stood, looking somewhat sheepish.

"Apologies, Lordship. I know my faith is not well received here."

"Not at all, dear. The one thing you will find amongst the Carellonians is a wide tolerance for beliefs of every type. Why do you think we still have emissaries of the Symballan religion when Atheae has already expelled their ambassadors and closed their temples?"

Asha looked back to the altar, "Where did this all come from?"

"Some of it are the things you recovered from Friggia. Others are items collected from, shall we say, other treasure troves. The Legacy has been collecting items of the Avandorian church for many years, items stolen by one fiend or another and recovered when the beast was put down. They have been languishing in dark vaults, awaiting the right opportunity to be used by someone of that faith, someone allied with The Legacy."

A servant entered bearing a cowl, a hood, a cross and a few other items, as well as a set of elven chain mail. Asha barely recognized it as her own, for the green mythral had been colored blood red by some magic.

Lord Corthellian motioned for the servant to take the things to a side chamber, "Follow her. I would like to see you in these things. Once you've returned in your armor, I have something else for you."

Very nice! The red looks much better on her than the green (not that the green looked bad, of course!). I really love the dialogue and interaction here. You always write such wonderful scenes.

You mean my PC? Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GB (that's 9.6 GB if multithreading),... 1 GB nVidia (2x 512 MB cards), and 2 GB RAM (4 GB swap file). Cyberpower,... best custom built PCs on the web,... oops, blatant comercial pitch. As far as the floors,... we are talking about the inside of Syvasgaard, and a holy shrine at that,... you think this is clean, you should see the inside of Taulloverre's mansion in Nice Little Place,... can you say Permanent Polish cantrip on,... well, everything?
