I would suggest that you look at some reference images as you model. try to get your basic shape and form built up bit by bit, yeah it can be a slow process but it will give you a better base to add your finer details to later on. Have a look at the zbrushcentral website and the pixologic classrooms for some great free tutorials. Keep bashing away it mate!
