Poole used to be a busy working dock too, now even busier but with private boats of all sorts. This pic certainly captures the gloom, almost a metaphor for decline.

It may not be as busy as it once was Mick, but at least a few people earn a crust there still. To say it was a bad day this turned out fairly well. The overcast sky and the darkened foreground add mood, after all it is an industrial site, not a tourist attraction. Like I've said previously Mick, it gives other people around the world a look into your bit of it. I know for a fact Roby will love this. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!

When I was in high school, we lived in a house up on a high bluff overlooking a busy port. (Tacoma, Washington) There were four waterways, cranes everywhere, ships in and out all the time. I loved that view - there was always something going on. This brings back memories, from half a world away. Thank you, my friend! An excellent shot.

Hey Mick, if you did this straight on with no postprocessing, it's a fine capture. An alternative would have been the graduated neutral density filter during the shot, or shooting at 1 stop smaller and then postprocessing to get a contrast to see the boats. I'll take yours, anytime. I'm fascinated with these huge boats.

With an overcast sky, the colors pop out more, and you accomplished this. Good colors!! :o) Excellent image.

i used to love going down to the docks here to see the big container ships but since Sept 11th, we are no longer allowed there as navy ships berth there in secret so it seems. My town is a defence/military town with the largest army and airforce base in northern Queensland, deployment to overseas hot spots start from here... no photos allowed at any of them or you get into big trouble, we can't even get photos of commerial planes at the airport as it's part of the airforce base, they will take your camera and fine you big time!...fab shot!
