Description

Had an opportunity yesterday to visit an old acquaintance, that is if a house can qualify as such, and the Vance Avenue house (also known as the Busby mansion) probably does. It had been two and a half years since my last visit, and sad to say the magnificent structure has been neglected for far too long. Built in the mid 1800's, it's one of just a few grand Victorian Mansions still remaining in Memphis, Tennessee hailing from that century. The good news is the new owners have dedicated themselves to finally giving the elaborate mansion the restoration its due and the results are already striking. For now though, the home remains unoccupied as renovation continues. Yesterday, Leah (Lil' Sizzler) & I had the opportunity to wander about photographing the haunted, historical mansion in its empty state, and I must say we were quite pleased with the results. This is the first post from that expedition. I'm standing on the first floor next to the incredible hand carved three story staircase, looking towards the front door. All natural light via windows from adjoining rooms. This is about a 4 second exposure, ISO 200, using a 18mm lens. I'm sure Leah will post a few of her own, so check out her gallery at the above yellow link to see her take on the place. Thanks for stopping by and thanks as well to the new Vance house owners for graciously allowing us free reign on their new estate. Looking forward to all the wonderful things they have planned for this grand old Victorian Mansion! marshall

What a great shot, Marshall. Love your POV. Isn't it fun to see the spirit of the house come back to life? Merry Christmas and wishes for a great 2008 to you.
