Description

This was for our monthly art challenge on the TrekBBS: "The Perfect Trek Gift." Putting myself in, say, Captain Kirk's shoes, I'm certain the perfect gift would be, well, a reason to get out of those shoes - in this case, two reasons!

------

Strangely, the most work on this scene was in constructing the scenery! I'd downloaded a set of the crew's quarters, but while it looked okay, it was made largely of primitives that were parented together, and had no discernible structure - worst of all, it was nearly impossible to make any portions invisible so I could get a decent camera angle. So I ended up remodeling everything in the set except for the decorative screen between the compartments! And in the process, I made logical divisions of the elements, and can make them visible or not at will, a tremendous boon that allows me to choose any camera angle I wish without needing to turn the focal length wayyy down and ending up with so much distortion that the image is lost. And while it's still not entirely accurate, it's much closer than what I started with.

------

This is also the first time I've used dynamic cloth in an image, even if it is only the bedcover. I needed to do something to make the scene a bit less antiseptic.

The characters are V3, with Andorian antennae and morphs from Draconian. The foreground character uses Mylochka's free Spock hair and the Poser World "Space Fleet Officer" dress; the background lass is under FK's KiriTe hair (again!) and wearing Maveris's V3 Fantasy Top and BAT's "Bikini-V3B" skort. Both are wearing boots from B-man.

------

If this is a "Blue Christmas," it's good to be the King!

Now that WOULD make one hell of a trekkie gift! I feel your pain when it comes to scene creation, it's so hard to find good trek interiors, even though the ships themselves as 3d objects aren't to hard to find. In any event you did good here, great trek pic. That said, if you can't get a good camera angle next time why not just use the "hither" dial on the camera properties to have it disregard anything in front of the camera up to that point?

Great work on the antennae. I like it. But you might want to turn them a bluer shade of blue (I know, strange wording). In general, though, Andorians rock and please do keep at it.
