Description

The loss of a pet and a dear sweet soul... This is Joel What a way to bring in the new year....David and I were on our way back home from our Christmas Holidays and we got a call from Jennifer (the young lady that is taking care of the animals when we were away). She was sobbing, and I knew right away what had happened....my little Joel was dead....He was in her arms and taking his last breathes of air......(Crying now myself) Jennifer was in shock because the day before she was feeding him and he was running around as if there was nothing wrong with him...see he was sick for a very long time- we had him to the vets and he had surgery on his teeth...they were growing out towards the sides of his cheeks and he had a bad infection there as well. But with treatment and medication he came around and started gaining weight again...then just as fast as that, he couldn't eat again.....so we started feeding him by shringe once more- and hoping that he would be strong enough till we got back home again, then we eould get him to the vets again.. Jennifer just held him and asked me to say goodbye to him - she would put the phone to his ear..I said " Goodbye my little buddy Joel....I will always love you my friend" Through sobs of course- and she told me he moved his head as if he knew my voice.... Jen also did me a favor and took Joel with her....she knew that I couldn't face it when I got home..... Jennifer I want to thank you so much for being there...and not letting him die alone..it eases the pain just a little knowing you were holding him when I wasn't able.. To those of you who ever had a pet- be it a dog, cat, mouse, fish or like Joel- a Peruvian Guinea Pig- the pain of losing your pet no matter what it is...is something that hurts so bad and I have had one heck of a day.. We have stopped in a Motel for the night because there is a winter storm heading this way and we didn't want to take any chances-

Oh, so sorry to hear this, Anne! Our pets become so much a part of our lives and it is so difficult when they must leave us. We are getting the storm here as well...I'm glad you stopped instead of trying to drive through it. I hope your new year will go swiftly upward from here. Hugs, my friend! Maxine

Sorry to hear you lost a pet. I don't know if it is in the rodent family (I think it is), I had a rat for over 4 years. I was told their life expectancy is 1 year. I never had wood in his cage for him to chew on and while he was getting old his teeth grew very long - even though he was well past his life expectancy, I felt bad I didn't know rodents need wood to chew on to force their teeth to stay short - I don't know if you know about this or if it had anything to do with your little guy, but I thought I'd say something since it reminded me of my old rat - His name was spooky - pretty cool name huh?

I'm so sorry to hear your lost your sweet piggy. My daughter had two - Herbie and Ferbie - and the pigs used to talk to each otherin that unique piggy language. When Herbie passed away, Ferbie lost the will to live. I always allowed my daughters to have whatever animals they wanted because I was not allowed to have pets as a child. Now we have four cats and two house rabbits plus my horse, although we have had many others. It is a terrible loss and some people do not understand. I lost my sweet hamster Peaches last winter, and even my husband could not understand why I was so sad. I hope there is an animal heaven and your piggy is with mine, happy and pain free. Hugz, Sherrie

Awwwww...so sorry for the loss Anne! Have a safe rest of the trip and I feel for Jennifer as well. That's got to be almost harder since she probably feels like she let you down, no matter how wrong that is. hugs John

So tragic my dear. Myself had some bad news with my dog. Living on a small holding, a tic bit her and where it bit, a hole formed. Today I am getting her back after her operation. So what a way to end & start a year hey gf. Be strong. Hugs

sorry about your loss. No matter what it is, be it pet or human, the loss is still hard to bear. They get into our hearts and i think sometimes even more so than a person would because they love us back unconditionally. I am thinking of you hon and your little friend will always look down on you. All my love to you. xx
