I have not been in that building but bleive lighting would be very difficult. This is quite nicely done and must be seen full view.

Dear friends, the light in the narthex came only from the doors (two of them, the major is usually closed)since the small windows have thin, almost transparent, "slabs" of yellow alabaster instead of glass but the gilded mosaics reflect and refract even the smallest beam of light helping the photographer!
