Description

I am doing this dedication for my friend RubyT who is simply one of the kindest and most wonderful ladies I've ever known. When I asked her what sort of dedi she would like she asked if I could do it for her brother Nick who is no longer with us. I'll only share a bit about Nick with you but to me he is one of those smallest heroes I mentioned a while back. Ruby and Nick were poor when they were little and raised by parents who didn't treat them good. I will cut and paste a portion of what Ruby told me in her letter to me below. (Ruby) Yep, we overcame all that. There were lots of emotional scars and a whole list of other stuff, but my brother fought to undo and redo so much for me and for himself. My brother was my Hero. Still is. If it weren't for my brother, I would not be who I am today and my life would surely not be as it has been. I owe everything I am to him. He saved my life and gave me a new one by stealing me away from them and hiding me til I was 18. He re-raised me. Nick was a true Hero and thee kindest human I have ever known in my entire life. I don't know about you but I was fighting back the tears while I worked on my dedi to her and wishing I was more talented and could give Ruby & Nick a dedication they truly deserve. Ruby asked me to do a image of Nick having a happy childhood, one like they never had, and to maybe include a butterfly. This is what I came up with after thinking about it. MY BROTHER - MY HERO: I can close my eyes and picture Ruby & Nick in a wonderous sandbox, having the time of their lives and not a care in the world. A small blue butterfly appears just above them and Nick reaches out and it lands on his finger.Ruby looks on at her big brother in awe as she has always been of him. This is the childhood I wish I could give them for real. Hugs to you Ruby and Nick, you are both in my heart always, Dave This was one of the most difficult renders I've ever done because of the emotion attached to it. In closing I'd like to say to parents out there. Please if you have children only show them love and protect them from bad things. I know thing can be tough sometimes and people can get angry or frustrated but there is NEVER any excuse for mistreating a child. EVER ! Another wonderful excerpt from childhood. You did a wonderful job creating the sand pile, what fun for those two. I guess my sister and I would have the roles reversed (she's older than me). And we didn't have a sand pile but we did have the 'broken boat' in our back yard. I recall (I would have been about 2 or 3 mind you) myself, my sister and Belle (our very fertile black labrador retriever) trying to sail the 'broken boat' across the 'green sea' (the back yard). I'll wager my elder brother gave us the 'green sea' reference since he was really into 'The Yellow Submarine'.

What a marvelous and sweet image! Your dedi brought tears to my eyes! These are two very strong people to have overcome such a miserable beginning. A wonderful guy Nick must have been to rescue and raise his sister to be a whole human being, but Ruby must have a strong soul herself to acheive such wholeness after such abuse.

I'm so amazed by your talent to create a happy childhood for me and for my brother here in your gallery! Each image is one I get very excited to see and my brother would have loved your works as well! Thank you for this honor, Dave. You have depicted a lovely fantasy of my brother and I sharing a lovely day. I love this image so much and I know Nick would have loved it as well! The thoughtfully done butterfly represents all those things we were never taught, and never had. Things like love and safety and a feeling of fullness and those feelings of belonging. There's a book out called "It's Never Too Late for a Happy Childhood", but your art is all inspiring to live happy and be the little kid in a better world! Your art inspires me to let the little girl in me giggle and smile in complete safety and loving joy. Your art promotes that tickled feeling deep inside and I always know if I need a smile, I can come look in your gallery and there is a smile right there guaranted. Thank you so very much my friend. I'm so happy I have found one like you here! Huge happy hugs to ya! Here's to a better year for you and your loved ones!
