Description
I actually have a darker render that I like better, but the detail on the submarine is harder to see. Soooo, here is the lighter render. All pics I am showing are my baby steps to modeling. I am branching out into lighting and composition now. So much to learn.
Hope you like it.

Thanks for taking a peek Steve. The model was a real pain, even though it looks pretty simple. The texturing was another matter entirely. Just like the Challenger, everything was textured from scratch. All the plates and rivets on the hull are hand drawn displacement maps. This was a labor of love.

Excellent model, what was it modeled in?

Thank you for the kind words. So far I only have experience with Animation Master. I wanted to get into 3D modeling and Animation Master was the cheapest way to do it at the time. Now that I have some experience with modeling, I am looking to broaden my horizons.

Great modelling and texture!! The killers give it a good sense of scale. Was it Chris Mueller who did the original model in the 1954 20,000? The creature next?

someone modeled this about 5 years ago..inside and outside. Don't remember who, but I do remember the render took 8 days (musta been Bryce...;) great work, keep it up

Well sir! You are well on your way! Excellent model!

Nice model but the image is the thing. Eventually you'll look for the final render and the amount of time spent on meshing a model, (the clarity of that model) takes a back seat to the mood of the scene. Muddling up otherwise complex well defined models so a scene can portray what feeling it can, is the mark of a good artist. Lighting and settings can be far more difficult to master.

I'm beginning to see that a model really takes back seat to just about everything else. A great texturing job can make a mediocre model look good, and great lighting and composition can make that model look great. As I am writing this, I am working on a pretty simple model, trying to incorporate what I've learned so far. This project should be an improvement in every aspect of the art. I'll post it at the end of the month.
