Description

This is Lucia Redclaw. She's a concept sketch for one of Hellion's World of Darkness characters - a Blood Talon werewolf no less. This was done in pencil. Picture posted with Hellion's permission of course, as per usual. There should be an ink one appearing at some point. Hellion's not entirely happy with the look of this one but it can take her 2/3 concept sketches before she's happy with something like that. Lucia is seen here just tipping forwards to peer down slightly at something below her. The World of Darkness setting I've used is a world gone mad, demons have taken over the Earth and it's a 'what if' kind of world. What happened to the werewolves, vampires, mages and so on? Now Lucia knows...

I've always preferred the werewolves (or just about any lycanthrope)to vampires, but I know I am in the minority (my wife prefers vampires)... This is a really keen sketch, and I'm looking forward to seeing the final pic... Showing my complete duncitude (how's that for a word) about drawing, does her inked pics start with pencil, or are they straight inks?

Leo: Most of the time they begin with pencil and then she moves on to pen/inking after she's fairly happy with the rough. As for me. I'm more inclined towards werewolves grin for some reason. I don't mind certain vampires (in WoD and other creations) - this was an experiment into how far could I take WoD into a different direction beyond the Whitewolf ideas for the End Times/Apocalypse.

To give you a taster: In Russia a mad vampire lord comes to power, his name: Rasputin. He sires several kindred including a woman that would later on be Hitler's downfall. In World War II, Hitler assembles a collection of priceless occult artifacts. Along with these are the writings of an insane theoretical scientist that created a device nick-named 'Pandora's Box'. The Allies storm Hitler's secret bunker only to find out the man is dead. They take the notes and everything to a secret location. Thus begins work on an interdimensional portal rumoured to lead straight to Hell. This was inspired in part by Hellboy but obviously takes a vastly different direction in the treatment of the portal. Suffice it to say that at the eve of New Year 2007/8 someone flips the switch on Pandora's Box. 22 days 32 seconds after, the world wakes up to find out everything has changed.
