Description

This was an excersice in Maya. Instead of focusing on modeling, I wanted to experiment with Shaders and Particles. My particles did not come out as good as I wanted to, so some splashes are added in Photoshop.

Keep experimenting, you've certainly got the right software to do the job. I would like to jump ahead a year to see how well you are doing (if you are patient enough to keep at it of course, lol).
