Description

Perhaps it was a long walk in the night air that brought this pair to the back of some factory or warehouse. But here, under the mist and moonlight, they make a world all their own. Although a kiss shared amid machinery may not seem romantic to some, to these guys it seems perfectly masculine. Backed up against the fire escape ladder, there appears to be nowhere left to go. I started to compose and render this image in Poser. But the two figures as well as the various sets and props I had accumulated simply placed too great a burden on the software. At first I tried to migrate all the figures and props to 3D Studio MAX via the Pro Pack plug-in. But that was too much for MAX, which just folded anytime I tried to work in the scene. So finally I exported nearly all the sets and props from Poser as OBJ files. I loaded these files into 3D Studio MAX, which also gave me the chance to break apart objects and retexture things with finer control than in Poser. MAX also gave me the ability to do rich shadows and atmospheric effects. Stars and moon backdrop created in Universe. Uses the Alley prop from PoserWorld, the Back Alley prop set from DAZ, the Crates and Barrels pack and Warehouse props from here at Renderosity. The man with his back turned to the camera is build from Michael 2 and the Duncan morphs/textures, attired with DAZ Combat Pack pants and texture. The other man is made from Nicholae by RuntimeDNA.

Far out, Dave. Living in New York I have known and can feel the "heat" of this situation . The title is Great! ; )

Nice attention to detail! I have the same problem with complicated scenes in Poser - maybe thats the solution. The poses are a bit stiff IMO, but otherwise great image.

It's sometimes surprising how little you need to do to overburden the software. I'm working on a 1.7G P4 with 512 MB of RAM, but even so I often build scenes I cannot render. It often becomes a strategy of how much you need to back off the original vision and still get a render done that you like. In the end, I also had to reduce the resolution of both characters skin and head textures as well (which seemed doable given their distance from the camera).

Once again I'm amazed by the amount of details here. Unfortunately the computer doesn't allways cooperate with the artist ! But anyway you win the challenge ! Bravo !
