Description

Cloud Gate is British artist Anish Kapoor's first public outdoor work installed in the United States. The 110-ton elliptical sculpture is forged of a seamless series of highly polished stainless steel plates, which reflect the city's famous skyline and the clouds above. A 12-foot-high arch provides a "gate" to the concave chamber beneath the sculpture, inviting visitors to touch its mirror-like surface and see their image reflected back from a variety of perspectives. Inspired by liquid mercury, the sculpture is among the largest of its kind in the world, measuring 66-feet long by 33-feet high.

What an amazing thing to see, I'm sure it was just awesome in person. It would be great to have a series of this sculpture in the different seasons, or with blue sky and sunsets reflected! WOW!!!!!

That thing is not art it is called bean and not cloud beacuse it sucks like bean and it costed tax payers and people of chicago 72 mil I do not think that it was worth 72 mil, but then some people do think that it was ok, I can see art institute in chicago get DaVinci for 72 mil and have real art not this at all, now some people may think I do not like art and that is not the case but this thing is not art and that is all to it for that much money.

In regards to lue's comment above, I offer the following: The Cloud Gate was privately funded and the total cost was $23 million — up from the original estimate of $6 million. Note both the cost and that it was privatlely funded and it also draws a lot of visitors who bring green aka money to the city which included a lot of my own before returning to poor, dull, Cleveland.
