Description

More of the old church ruins at Heptonstall. Heptonstall, high above the town of Hebden Bridge West Yorkshire UK. THE CRAGG VALE COINERS An interesting grave holds the body of David Hartley a notorious gang leader from Cragg vale (2miles SE of Here) who clipped the edges of gold coins and melted the clippings and recast in forged dies. The coining business was so intense it eventually devalued the currency on a national scale. A government official William Deighton was murdered and his informers brutally tortured by the gang to try nd stop an investigation. A translation of a Latin entry in church records read "1770, May 1st David Hartley, of Bell House in the township of Erringden, Hanged by the neck near York for unlawfully stamping and clipping a public coin". Today I'm going to buy some flowers and have fun taking some shots and hopefully have some cheerful pictures tomorrow lol.

Been perusing your gallery a bit Alan. You definitely have the eye for photography. They are all excellent! I like it when an image makes you feel what your imagination tells you it would be like, if you were in the scene. Not sure that makes alot of sense Alan, but your photos do that for me. Thank ye. Mike
