Description

It's latest tour of duty over, the Planetcrusher Class Battle Cruiser prepares to land for repairs and upgrading. Thanks to all who commented on the first two incarnations of this image in the work in progress section. I've increased the specularity on the ship and moved the lighting to give it more form. The model was supplied with Vue Esprit 6.

Neat ship design. I like the texture - it makes it look like it has tough impervious armor.

This is still a nice render! I love the view looking down on the ship and the terrain below. Very cool!

Now, you've picked yourself one of the three hardest subject matters in 3d rendering - clouds. Firstly let me start by saying that I know nothing about Vue other than the examples that I have seen here on this site. Taking that in to account, I think you have achieved a good level of realism in their formation and the angle of the lighting greatly adds to the effect. I have viewed the previous two versions and this is definitely the superior of the three. The lighting angle has giving mass to the land below as well as the all important volume of the clouds. How long did this take to render?

I've rerendered out of curiosity and it took just under two hours. My first attempt didn't even make it to the gallery as the clouds were too thick. The gap beetween the main clouds were the result of the atmosphere I chose, I placed the camera and battle cruiser to show the gap and added the extra clouds to give more depth. It has been a great learning experience. It's very easy to get an image out of Vue but takes more effort to get things as you would like it. I'd highly recommend this program.

I'd say you've gotten the hang of some of the more technical aspects of Vue! Nice work on this image. I'd like to see more model work if possible.
