Description

Taken in June, 2006 on a too-short vacation in Alaska. Explorer Glacier is on the road to Portage Lake, near the east end of Turnagain Arm of Cook's Inlet. For a bit of scale, note the full-sized trees in the lower right. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

It's amazing how much color there is in ice and snow! Glaciers are such a mystery to me, and this is a great capture :)

I was mentally comparing it, size-wise, to Athabasca Glacier in the Canadian Rockies. (You can just park the car and get out and walk to Athabasca.) When you said to look for the trees, at first I couldn't see them. Then it hit me all at once how huge this is! Wow. That's very impressive! It's a bit hard to get my brain around how big it really is. Fantastic photography!

This is a really great picture, and those trees really put things in persepctive as to the size of this thing. Wow! I'm looking forward to another trip to Alaska and this picture really got the ol' travel juices flowing.
