Description
Common cranes are dancing at the Lake of the Der. This is a popular area for birdwatching in October/November, when the cranes stop there on their way to Spain or Morocco. There are as many as 60000 of these birds in the area, along with other waterfowl. This photo was taken with a 300mm lens + a 1.4x converter from a watchpost above the lake.
Unfortunately, the high res version of this file was destroyed by a hard disk crash.

Lac du Der is a place I really want to visit... And you're right with the title : they look like dancing...

Forgot to mention... If you look carefully at the waterline behind the cranes, you will see a series of small dots. These are ducks and other waterfowl, asleep or resting. The lake is litterally filled with birds. You can find info on the Lake of the Der on the LPO website
