Oh, how lovely was the Scythara. Brilliant, colorful plumes with a song that could melt the most hardened, cold heart. And the chicks...the cutest little guys you could ever come across. Their feathers at first were a creamy gray, later to turn a beautiful russet, green and blue. She and her chicks are long gone though. Extinct. Lost is this beauty forever. Through human greed and ignorance her habitate had been degraded, wontonly destroyed--pollution, overpopulation and overdevelopment (look at all those wonderful strip malls that just HAD to be built)--that she could no longer find a place to live and raise her young. What a tragic loss. But, do keep in mind, dear visitor, her story is not that unique and that all of us are vulnerable to the follies of man and the vagaries of the earth--the next Scythara could be you.
